Lions advance to 17th straight NCAA Regional

Box Score Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey lacrosse team advanced to the NCAA Regionals for the 17th consecutive year with a 19-6 victory over Farmingdale State College in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The tournament first included the regional format in 2001. With the win, the Lions improve their record to 16-1, while the Rams close out their season at 18-2.

Kathleen Jaeger (Whitehouse Station, NJ / Hunterdon Central) kicked off the scoring for TCNJ just 39 seconds into the game, netting her 43rd goal of the season. The Lions extended the lead to three courtesy of goals from Jaclyn Douglas (Malvern, PA / Great Valley) and Mia Blackman (Arlington, VA / Field School).

The Rams would respond on the strength of Brittany Rosino. Rosino scored the first of her four goals to reduce the margin to 3-1.

Olivia Cleale (Yardley, PA / Notre Dame (NJ)), who leads the Lions in assists, found the goal column for the sixth time in her freshman campaign just over a minute later to take back control of the game. Cleale would end up with a career-high four goals to go along with two assists.

Rosino would complete her hat-trick in the first half for the Rams, scoring on a free position shot as the Lions took a 9-4 advantage in to the break.

The second half began much like the first, with Amanda Muller (Hillsborough, NJ / Hillsborough) scoring 97 seconds into the period. Cleale and Jaeger each scored three goals in the second half with Erin Harvey (Mt. Laurel, NJ / Lenape) chipping in a pair helping to produce the final score. Jaeger finished one of a career-high with five goals.

Normally known for her staunch defensive play, Elizabeth Morrison (Stonignton, CT / Stonington) scored twice for the Lions. She led the team with six draw controls, and was tied for the team-high in both caused turnovers and ground balls.

TCNJ outshot FSC 43-11.

The Lions will face Mount Union in their next contest with defending champions Middlebury and Brockport rounding out the regional.
