Lions capture seventh straight NJAC Championship

Ewing, NJ…The College of New Jersey lacrosse team overcame an early two goal deficit, scoring the game's final 11 goals to defeat Montclair State University 11-2 in the NJAC Tournament Championship Game. The win gives the Lions their seventh consecutive NJAC Championship and TCNJ has won all four NJAC Tournaments contested in women's lacrosse.

The win improves the top-ranked Lions record to 15-1, while the Red Hawks dropped to 12-6.

By winning the NJAC Tournament TCNJ has secured their spot in the upcoming NCAA Division III Tournament and will find out their opponent along with the rest of the bracket during the NCAA.com Selection Show Sunday night at 9:30 pm.

Montclair State opened the scoring when NJAC Midfielder of the Year Francesca Verrone found the back of the net off a feed from Kyle Graver. Graver then assisted on another goal to put the Red Hawks up 2-0.

NJAC Coach of the Year Sharon Pfleuger called a time out and the Lions immediately took control. NJAC Attack Player of the Year Mia Blackman (Arlington, VA / Field School) scored just 37 seconds later to halve the deficit. The Lions would tie the game three minutes when Allie Gorman (Sicklerville, NJ / Washington Twp.) scored shortly after drawing a foul.

Alexandria Fizpatrick (Burlington, NJ / Northern Burlington) gave the Lions a lead they would not lose courtesy of a feed from Amanda Muller (Hillsborough, NJ / Hillsborough) with 12:36 remaining in the first half. TCNJ took the 3-2 advantage in to the break.

Kathleen Jaeger (Whitehouse Station, NJ / Hunterdon Central) scored just under four minutes in to the second half and would go on to score a total of five goals as the Lions outscored MSU 8-0 in the second half.

NJAC Defensive Player of the Year Elizabeth Morrison (Stonington, CT / Stonington) caused three turnovers, scooped three ground balls, and added two draw controls for the national scoring defense leaders.

Goalie Miranda Chrone (Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown) was nearly flawless in net, making six saves and causing a turnover. Chrone also drew one the six yellow cards assessed to the Red Hawks.

TCNJ out shot MSU 21-13.
