TCNJ Tennis Headed to NCAA Championships

It was an exciting Monday for The College of New Jersey tennis program as the 2017 NCAA Division III Tennis Championship Tournament brackets were announced.

The women's team waited seven months to finally learn that they will head to Tufts University for the regional championships that includes the first, second, and third rounds. The Lions (14-3) will take on Baruch College on Friday, May 12 at a time to be determined. TCNJ received an automatic bid after winning its 34th consecutive New Jersey Athletic Conference championship this past fall. With an opening round victory, the Lions would face Johns Hopkins University (16-5) in the second round. Tufts, Ithaca, and Baruch College are the other three teams in the region.

The men's squad had a tremendous regular season and earned an at-large bid to the tournament. They will face Cabrini University at noon on Thursday at Middlebury College.TCNJ posted a 14-3 mark and had a number of big wins over quality opponents, including a 6-3 decision over Kalamazoo College (18-1). A first-round triumph for the Lions would place them in a second-round match at 8:30 a.m. against Skidmore College (11-6). Middlebury, Baruch, and Colby Sawyer College round out the regional site.

The teams will play a single-elimination tournament with the first, second- and third-rounds played at regional sites, Friday-Sunday, May 12-14, or Thursday-Saturday, May 11-13. University of the South and the Chattanooga Sports Commission will host the team championships finals, which will be held May 22-27 at The Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Student-athletes selected to the individual championships will be announced Wednesday, May 10.
