Wayne, NJ… The College of New Jersey field hockey team won their 21
st consecutive regular season New Jersey Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon, defeating William Paterson University 3-0. The fourth-ranked Lions are now 6-2, and 1-0 in the NJAC. The Pioneers fall to 2-8 and 0-2 in the conference.
Â
The Lions offense got off to a quick start just over five minutes into the game with
Kayla Peterson (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) dribbling through the heart of the Pioneers defense and finishing from five yards out.
Â
The Lions extended the advantage when
Elizabeth Morrison (Stonington, CT/Stonington) played a long right to left pass that
Tori Tiefenthaler (Freehold, NJ/Biotechnology/Freehold Borough) punched home from the doorstep of the goal.
Â
Still in the first half, Tiefenthaler proved she can only score goals in pairs after she took advantage of a loose ball right in front of the cage and scored her team-leading eighth of the season. Tiefenthaler has scored in four different games for the Lions and has scored twice in each of those contests.
Â
Pioneer Goalie Mallory Rickerhauser made a career-high 16 saves to keep William Paterson in the game, but Lions net-minder
Christina Fabiano (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) stopped both of the shots on goal that she faced for her third shutout of the season.
Â
TCNJ out-shot the Pioneers 21-3 and earned 16 penalty corners to four for William Paterson.
Â
The Lions return home to continue conference play Tuesday night against Rowan University. Game time is 7:30 PM.
