EWING, N.J. – The College of New Jersey men's soccer team went toe to toe with the top team in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, but was edged 4-3 by Montclair State University on Saturday night. TCNJ becomes 9-5-2 with the loss and 2-4-2 in conference play while Montclair State bumped up to 14-1-2 and 7-0-2 in the NJAC.
The Red Hawks scored first 12 minutes in on a penalty kick, yet the Lions had the equalizer.
Nick Sample scored his seventh goal of the season to even it up at 1-1. Montclair went out in front with a goal in the 40
th minute, but the Lions tied it up once again.

Ryan Vazquez who found the back of the net with a header. The goal was Vazquez's 13
th of the season.
After the Red Hawks took a 3-2 lead, TCNJ continued to be resilient as Vazquez struck once again off of an assist from
Nick Sample. The Red Hawks regained the lead in the 71
st minute to make it 4-3, a lead they would not surrender.
In net for the Lions was
Daniel Mecadon, who racked up a career high 11 saves. Vazquez now has 14 goals on the year, which ties him for seventh most all-time in a single season in program history.
Next up for the Lions is a New Jersey Athletic Conference game against Rowan University on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in Lions Stadium. TCNJ will also hold senior night.
