Men's Soccer Edged by Montclair State

EWING, N.J. – The College of New Jersey men's soccer team went toe to toe with the top team in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, but was edged 4-3 by Montclair State University on Saturday night. TCNJ becomes 9-5-2 with the loss and 2-4-2 in conference play while Montclair State bumped up to 14-1-2 and 7-0-2 in the NJAC.

The Red Hawks scored first 12 minutes in on a penalty kick, yet the Lions had the equalizer. Nick Sample scored his seventh goal of the season to even it up at 1-1. Montclair went out in front with a goal in the 40th minute, but the Lions tied it up once again. Kevin Esteves set up Ryan Vazquez who found the back of the net with a header. The goal was Vazquez's 13th of the season.

After the Red Hawks took a 3-2 lead, TCNJ continued to be resilient as Vazquez struck once again off of an assist from Nick Sample. The Red Hawks regained the lead in the 71st minute to make it 4-3, a lead they would not surrender.

In net for the Lions was Daniel Mecadon, who racked up a career high 11 saves. Vazquez now has 14 goals on the year, which ties him for seventh most all-time in a single season in program history.

Next up for the Lions is a New Jersey Athletic Conference game against Rowan University on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in Lions Stadium. TCNJ will also hold senior night.
