Ewing, NJ… As the first wave of Winter Storm Toby descended upon Lions Stadium, The College of New Jersey lacrosse team braved the elements to defeat Ursinus College 15-6 Tuesday night. The sixth-ranked Lions improved to 5-1 on the season, while the Bears dropped to 2-4. The win in the 30
th straight in the all-time series, which TCNJ now leads 36-6 dating back to 1984.
The Lions opened the scoring with a pair of free position goals by
Amanda Muller (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) and
Erin Harvey (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape). Muller and Harvey would each finish with a pair of goals.
After the Bears responded with a goal from Franny Liberatoscioli, Lions leading goal scorer
Alexandria Fitzpatrick (Burlington, NJ/Northern Burlington) netted her 22
nd of the season that sparked a four goal rally.
Kathleen Jaeger (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) scored her first two goals of the season during the run after missing the Lions first four games due to competition with the Lions Indoor Track and Field team, during which she earned All-American honors in the 800-meters.
Ursinus answered with a pair of goals, whittling the margin to 6-3, before Jaeger found Fitzpatrick with just two seconds remaining in the opening period to put TCNJ up 7-3 at the half.
The Bears would respond scoring just over a minute into the second half, but that was as close as they would get. TCNJ strung together six straight goals, including four of
Allie Gorman's (Sicklerville, NJ/Washington Twp.) career-high five goals.
The teams would trade two goals apiece over the final 13 minutes to produce the final score.
The Lions held a 35-12 shot advantage and forced the Bears into 30 turnovers, while committing just 16.
Elizabeth Morrison (Stonington, CT/Stonington) led all players with six draw controls, six ground balls, and five caused turnovers. Morrison now has 187 career caused turnovers, 13
th most in NCAA Division III history.
The Lions continue their home stand with a game against SUNY Brockport on Saturday, March 24. Game time is scheduled for noon.
