Galloway, NJ... The College of New Jersey baseball team defeated Stockton University on Friday in a conference game by a final score of 20-2. The Lions improved their record to 17-5 and 6-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, while the Ospreys drop to 5-15 and and 2-6 in the conference.
TCNJ got ahead right away, as they put up five runs in the top of the first inning.
Zachary Shindler (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) knocked in the first run with an RBI double then the next at bat
Austin Lindsay (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) singled in Shindler to make it 2-0.
Tommy McCarthy (Allentown, NJ/Allentown) laced a RBI double to make it a 3-0 ballgame, and McCarthy wound up scoring on a wild pitch.
Jacob Simon (Hightstown, NJ/Hightstown) scored the final run of the opening inning on a wild pitch.
Patrick Anderson (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) continued to swing a hot bat, as he drove in a run with a base hit in the top of the third inning. The Lions added another run in the top of the fourth, fifth, and three runs in the sixth. Additionally, they tacked on seven runs in the top of the eighth and two more in the top of the ninth.Â
Gary Otten (Staten Island, NY/MSGR Farrell) knocked in the first RBI of his career with a base hit in the eighth inning.
Cameron Cane (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) made his collegiate debut, and in his second at bat drove in a run with an RBI sac fly. In the ninth, he registered his first collegiate hit as he racked up another RBI.Â
Michael Fischer (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) threw a quality start, as he earned the win with 8.0 innings pitched and only one earned run.
Zachary Padersky (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) came on in the ninth inning and retired the Ospreys in order.
Next up for TCNJ is a doubleheader at home against NJAC foe Montclair State University, beginning at 11:30am. Tomorrow is also the Lions' alumni day.
