Lions Push Conference Winning Streak to 45

Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey lacrosse team extended its regular season conference winning streak to 45 games Tuesday night, defeating Rowan University 16-3. The Lions now sit alone atop the New Jersey Athletic Conference at 11-2 and 4-0 in league play. The 21st-ranked Profs fall to 10-2 and 3-1 in the NJAC.

The Lions jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on goals by Allie Gorman (Sicklerville, NJ/Washington Twp.) and Alex Fitzpatrick (Burlington, NJ/Northern Burlington). Fitzpatrick would later score her team-leading 32nd of the season.

After the Profs halved the lead with a goal of their own, TCNJ rattled off six straight goals, including two each from Jessica Allen (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) and Gorman. It marked the first multi-goal game of Allen's collegiate career.

The teams then swapped a pair of goals going into the break as the Lions led 9-2 at the half.

The Profs opened the scoring in the second period before TCNJ dominated the final 26 minutes closing the game on a 7-0 run. Kathleen Jaeger (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) scored three goals during the run, the last of which was the 100th goal of her career. Gorman scored another three goals in the second half as she finished with a career-high six tallies, marking her fourth straight game with three or more goals.

The Lions defense shut down the nation's 10th-highest scoring offense in Rowan, 16.91 goals per game, to just the three tallies thanks to large contributions from Elizabeth Morrison (Stonington, CT/Stonington). Morrison led all players with six ground balls and six caused turnovers. She also finished with a team-high six draw controls. Morrison passed Melanie Vasofski for the most career ground balls in Lions history.

In net, Miranda Chrone (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) made nine saves to secure the victory.

The Lions will now get their second chance at a number one team, when top-ranked Salisbury University comes to Lions Stadium Friday for a 6:00 PM first draw.
