Lions Take Down Top-Ranked Salisbury

Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey lacrosse team proved why they are the nation's top scoring defense Friday night, defeating top-ranked Salisbury University 10-1 in Lions Stadium. The third-ranked Lions improve to 12-2 on the year, while the Seagulls drop to 14-1. TCNJ now leads the all-time series 28-8.

Today's game marks the first time in known history that the Seagulls have been held to a single goal.

The Lions were dominant from the opening draw, scoring the game's first five goals. Alexandria Fitzpatrick (Burlington, NJ/Northern Burlington) scored her team-leading 33rd goal of the season just under two minutes into the game. Within 5 ½ minutes TCNJ built a 4-0 lead on goals by Erin Jaffe (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah), Kasey Donoghue (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape), and Kathleen Jaeger (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central).

Following the Seagulls first goal of the game, TCNJ responded quickly scoring a pair of goals just 16 seconds apart. Donoghue scored on a free position shot, then Allie Gorman (Sicklerville, NJ/Washington Twp.) scooped the draw control, ran right down the middle of the field and beat the Salisbury goalie for her second of the game. Jaeger would add a pair of goals to complete her hat trick and send the Lions into the break up 9-1.

Both defenses were suffocating in the second half, it took nearly 27 minutes before Gorman completed her hat trick and took over the team lead with her 34th of the year.

Olivia Cleale (Yardley, PA/Notre Dame (NJ)) picked up a pair of assists in the win, giving her 38 on the season, now tied for fifth most in a year in program history.

Avery Sweeney (Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) and Elizabeth Morrison (Stonington, CT/Stonington) each nabbed three draw controls to lead the Lions. Morrison, Brooke Lionetti (Malvern, PA/Great Valley), and Miranda Chrone (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) each caused three turnovers. Chrone scooped six ground balls to lead all players.

In net, Chrone made three saves to earn the victory.

TCNJ will remain home to host Colorado College Sunday at 1:00 PM. Prior to the game, the team will honor its three graduating seniors.
