EWING, N.J. – The College of New Jersey men's soccer team was defeated by Ramapo College in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Saturday by a final score of 2-1.
The Roadrunners (8-0, 2-0 NJAC) struck first in the 23rd minute behind a goal from Joseph Fala. With under four minutes to play
Daniel Mecadon came up with a pair of saves to keep the game at 1-0. The Lions (7-2, 1-1 NJAC) had an opportunity with less than a minute left in the half yet a shot from
Ryan Vazquez was denied by the Roadrunner keeper.
In the second half the Lions iced up the game in the 73
rd minute.
Nick Sample sent a free kick into the box, and
Matthew Nastarowicz punched a header to tie the game up at 1-1. Sample continued his efficient passing as that was his sixth assist on the season.
Neither team was able to find the game winner in the final minutes of regulation, and the match went into overtime. The Roadrunners converted on a penalty kick seven minutes in to end the game and grab the win.
Mecadon played well in net for the Lions as he generated seven saves.
Next up for the Lions is an away game at Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 7:00 p.m.
