GENEVA, N.Y. – The College of New Jersey men's tennis team completed competition for the fall at ITA regionals over the past two days. The Lions advanced a pair of freshman to the quarterfinals in singles play.
Matthew Michibata and
Justin Wain each won three rounds in singles competition. Michibata survived a marathon first round match, winning a 15-13 third set super breaker. Wain also survived a third set super breaker, winning 10-7. Michibata settled down in the second round, dropping just a single game. Wain again survived a super breaker winning 10-7. In the third round, Wain advanced in straight sets, while Michibata used a third set victory. The pair each lost in the quarterfinals by identical 4-6, 5-7 scores.
Thomas Wright survived a first round marathon winning a 12-10 super breaker.
In doubles play the teams of Michibata and
Tim Gavornik as well as Wain and
Matt Puig won their first round match-ups before falling in the second round.
