MAHWAH, N.J. – The College of New Jersey field hockey team exploded for six first-half goals en route to an 8-0 victory over Ramapo College Saturday afternoon. The fourth-ranked Lions are 7-1 on the season and 1-0 in the NJAC. The Roadrunners are 3-6 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Tori Tiefenthaler got the Lions on the board seven and a half minutes into the game off a feed from
Jordan Allegretto. Less than two minutes later,
Kayla Peterson continued her hot hand. She scored her 10
th of the season off a pass from
Caroline Quinn. Peterson then found
Cayla Andrews who made the score 3-0. The Lions scoring barrage would momentarily cease after Tiefenthaler scored her second of the game, scoring off an assist by Peterson.
Late in the first half, Quinn received a pass from Allegretto and extended the lead to five. Quinn found
Sidney Padilla just over a minute later to produce the halftime score.
In the second half, the Lions scored a pair of unassisted goals. Tiefenthaler completed her second hat trick of the season, and third of her career. Then,
Taylor Barrett closed out the scoring for the Lions.
Maddie Beaumont made a pair of saves before giving way to
Dani Britton for the combined shutout. The action was the first of Britton's collegiate career.
TCNJ was dominant the entire game, out-shooting the Roadrunners 32-2 and earning 17 corners to just one for Ramapo.
The Lions take to the road again Tuesday, Oct. 6 when they travel to Eastern University. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
