EWING, N.J. – The College of New Jersey lacrosse team won its 32
nd consecutive season-opener Saturday afternoon. The third-ranked Lions (1-0) defeated Neumann University (1-1) 16-0 in Lions Stadium.
Alexandria Fitzpatrick kicked off the scoring for the Lions, finding the back of the net off a feed from
Olivia Cleale 32 seconds into the game. Fitzpatrick would score four times in the game with all four being assisted by Cleale. Cleale finished with eight assists.
"Olivia and I have great chemistry both on and off the field," said Fitzpatrick. "The chemistry between all of the players on our team is a large part of why our team is so successful."
Incoming transfer
Kaela Sierra got on the board early in the game, scoring her first collegiate goal off an assist from Fitzpatrick. Sierra and
Kathleen Jaeger each nabbed a team-high three ground balls.
Kasey Donoghue scored all three of her goals in the opening frame. Jaeger scored twice in the first half before completing her hat trick on a free-position goal midway through the second.
Erin Jaffe scored a pair of goals and
Jessica Allen found the net to round out the Lions offense.
Erin Harvey had a game-high four draw controls with
Chloe Pottillo snagging four.
Miranda Chrone made three saves in the opening half before handing the game over to
Alexa Natalicchio. Natalicchio made a pair of saves, including a stop on a shot from just in front of the crease, to preserve the shutout.
The Lions travel to Haverford College for for a game on Tues, Feb. 26. First draw is set for 4:30 p.m.
