No. 11 Lacrosse Defeats Cabrini

EWING, N.J. – The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team remained unbeaten at home on the 2019 season Tuesday, defeating Cabrini University 16-2 in Lions Stadium. The 11th-ranked Lions improved to 4-1 on the season, while the Cavaliers fell to 2-3.

The Lions took control of the game early. Kasey Donoghue opened the scoring a minute and a half into the game using a split dodge to get by her defender before finding the back of the net. Donoghue would go on to complete her hat trick in the opening half.

The NJAC's leading scorer, Alex Fitzpatrick, then scored back-to-back goals, putting the Lions up 3-0. Fitzpatrick has scored at least four goals in every game this season for the Lions and the trend continued tonight as the junior finished with five.

Olivia Cleale assisted on the second Fitzpatrick goal and took over the remainder of the opening 30 minutes assisting on three goals and scoring twice to help TCNJ to an 11-0 lead at the half. Cleale added two more assists in the second half to give her 19 on the season.

"I feel really comfortable in my role here," said Cleale. "It's all about the team. Everyone can contribute in their own way, and I thought we were really on tonight."

Two-time reigning CSAC Player of the Year Avery Murphy opened the second half with a goal for Cabrini. The Lions would immediately answer with the returning Kathleen Jaeger scoring her second of the game on a free position shot.

With the Lions up 14-1, Murphy would score again on a spinning backhand shot. Again however, Jaeger would provide the answer. The senior completed her hat trick and snuffed out any thoughts of a comeback.

Miranda Chrone made seven saves before Alexa Natalicchio entered the game and made four saves of her own. Natalicchio did not allow a goal in just under 15 minutes in net.

Avery Sweeney led TCNJ with five draw controls and Abby Flagler topped the Lions with three ground balls.

The Lions take to the road to begin spring break with a trip to Amherst College on Saturday, Mar. 16. First draw is set for 1 p.m.
