AMHERST, Mass. – The College of New Jersey lacrosse team fell for the second time in 2019 Saturday afternoon, falling 11-6 in a non-conference game at Amherst College. The 11
th-ranked Lions fell to 4-2 on the year, with the 13
th-ranked Mammoths improving to 4-1.
Â
The Mammoths dominated play early jumping out to a 5-0 lead behind a goal and two assists from Claire Dunbar. TCNJ stopped the rally as
Erin Harvey sliced through a trio of defenders to put the Lions on the board.
Â
After a pair of goals from Amherst gave the Mammoths what would be their largest lead of the game,
Olivia Cleale made a roll dodge from behind the cage and scored from the doorstep to close out the first half.
Â
Harvey opened the scoring in the second half just 44 seconds into the period. The Mammoths got an answer from Annie Cohen, but TCNJ would get to work at that point. The Lions scored three straight goals started by
Alexandria Fitzpatrick, then back-to-back goals from
Kasey Donoghue.
Â
That would be as close as TCNJ would get. Amherst closed out the game with straight goals to produce the final score.
Â
Both goalies were strong as
Miranda Chrone made nine saves for the Lions and Talia Land made 12 for the Mammoths.
Â
Brittany Blair had a strong game defensively for the Lions, leading all players in the game with four ground balls. The four ground balls tied a career-high for the sophomore.
Â
The Lions return home Wednesday, Mar. 20 when they host Tufts University at 4:30 p.m.
