No. 13 Lacrosse Drops Tight Game to No. 8 Tufts

EWING, N.J. – A goal by Colette Smith with 4:51 remaining in regulation broke a 7-7 tie and would be the game's final goal as Tufts University defeated The College of New Jersey lacrosse team Wednesday afternoon. The 13th-ranked Lions dropped to 4-3 on the season, while the eighth-ranked Jumbos remained unbeaten at 5-0.

TCNJ got on the board first when Alexandria Fitzpatrick scored on a free position attempt. Fitzpatrick has scored in every game this season for the Lions. The Jumbos answered with a free position goal of their own to knot the game at one.

After a scramble in front of the net, Jessica Allen found the ball in her stick and found Kathleen Jaeger in front of the net to again give the Lions an early lead.

The Jumbos controlled the remainder of the half, scoring a trio of free position goals to take a 4-2 lead at the half.

Tufts continued the momentum in the second half, Dakota Adamec scored her second free position goal of the game. The three goal lead was the largest for either team in the contest.

TCNJ answered as Allie Gorman and Jaeger scored back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to just one. The teams went goal-for-goal from that moment with the Jumbos taking a 7-5 lead with 8:48 remaining.

Erin Harvey won the ensuing draw and would go on to score her second goal of the game to again cut the lead to just one. 74 seconds later Kasey Donoghue scored her 15th of the season to tie the game at seven for the first time since 2-2.

The Lions had a possession with just under two minutes remaining, but the Jumbos forced a turnover and ran out the remaining time on the clock.

Miranda Chrone made 11 saves for the Lions. She also led all players in the game with five ground balls.

Erin Harvey led all players in the game with three draw controls.

TCNJ will face another test next time out when they travel to top-ranked Gettysburg on Mar. 28. First draw is set for 5 p.m.
