AUBURNDALE , Fla. – The TCNJ baseball team rounded out action in the RussMatt Invite on a high note Saturday. The Lions topped Framingham State 10-0 in seven innings. They conclude the Florida trip with a record of 7-2 on the week.
In the second inning
Tommy McCarthy recorded his 100
th career hit with a base hit through the left side. McCarthy has tallied a .301 average in 101 career games with 62 RBIs for TCNJ. He went 2-5 on the game with a run scored.
Aydon Chavis got TCNJ (8-2) on the board with a two RBI single in the second. In the third inning a home run off the bat ofÂ
Thomas Persichetti made it a 3-0 ballgame. The homer was his third on the young season. A few batters later
Avery Epstein pushed across another run with an RBI groundout.
David Cardona III made it a 5-0 game with a single in the fourth inning. TCNJ continued to score when
Matt Giacose ripped a triple to left center to make it a 7-0 Lion lead, then Epstein drove in another to put the Lions up eight.
Starting pitcher
Michael Walley was terrific on the mound and pitched a complete game shutout. He allowed just three hits en route to recording the victory. Walley only allowed five batters to reach base all game, and the win pushed him to 2-0 on the season.
Chavis notched his first career home run in the fifth inning to put the Lions up 9-0. The 10
th run came in on a sac fly off the bat of
Ryan Fischer.
TCNJ will return to the Garden State and resume action at Widener University on Tuesday.
