EWING, N.J. – The College of New Jersey lacrosse team received a career game in net from
Miranda Chrone, using the effort to defeat Dickinson College 16-9 Saturday afternoon. The 11
th-ranked Lions are now 3-1 on the season, while Dickinson fell for the first time this season, falling to 4-1.
Â
Chrone set a career-high with 19 saves. The Lions net minder also scooped four ground balls.
Â
"It's always good when I can get into a rhythm like I did today," said Chrone. "I was seeing the ball well and moving to it."
Â
TCNJ took control of the game early as a pair of goals from
Alexandria Fitzpatrick sparked sparked a 6-0 Lions run to open the game. Fitzpatrick would finish with five goals and an assist on the game. The junior has scored at least four goals in every game this season.
Â
Erin Harvey was forced to open up her offensive game today, scoring the first of her three goals to put TCNJ on top 4-0. Harvey led the Lions with six draw controls.
Â
After the Red Devils broke through, Fitzpatrick had the answer completing her hat trick.
Olivia Cleale also scored before the Red Devils found the back of the net for a second time. This time it would be Harvey providing the answer sending TCNJ into the half with a 9-2 lead.
Â
In the second half, neither team could gather any momentum. The teams swapped goals for the first ten minutes of the second session with
Kasey Donoghue getting her ninth goal of the season to put the Lions up 13-5. Dickinson responded with their largest rally of the game, scoring three straight goals, but that was as close as they would get. Fitzpatrick ended the rally off a feed from
Jessica Allen. Dickinson would score one more goal before Allen scored a goal of her own off an assist from
Olivia Cleale. The assist was Cleale's fourth of the game and moved her past Ali Jaeger '11 for second in program history in career assists.
Â
Allie Gorman would score her second of the game to close out the scoring.
Â
Abby Flagler and
Chloe Pottillo each scooped three ground balls to lead field players for TCNJ.
Â
"We're all clicking right now on defense," said Chrone. "As we play more and more games, our communication continues to grow."
Â
The Lions return to action Tuesday, Mar. 12 when they host Cabrini at 7 p.m.
