SALISBURY, Md. – The College of New Jersey Lacrosse team was tied with the fifth-ranked team in the country with just under 14 minutes to go, but the 16
th-ranked Lions ultimately fell 8-7 to Salisbury University Saturday. The Lions are now 6-5 on the season, while the Seagulls are 12-2.
Gianna Demato scored twice in the game's opening four minutes to put Salisbury up 2-0. TCNJ would quickly respond.
Kasey Donoghue took a feed from
Kathleen Jaeger and sparked a four goal rally. Donoghue finished with her fifth hat trick of the season.
Erin Harvey and Alex Fitzpatrick would score before Donoghue bookended the run.
The Seagulls would rally to tie the score at four at the break.
Early in the second, the teams traded goals and Fitzpatrick found Donoghue for her third of the game to tie the game at six with 13:40 remaining. The seagulls scored two straight capped by Demato's fourth of the game to take an 8-6 lead.
Olivia Cleale scored her second of the game to cut the deficit to a single goal again with 3:34 remaining. TCNJ would get a pair of possessions in the final minutes, but were unable to tie the score.
Fitzpatrick and
Abby Flagler each grabbed four draws to help the Lions to a 10-7 draw advantage in the game.
TCNJ returns to action when they resume NJAC play with a trip to Rowan University on Apr. 16. First draw is 7 p.m.
