No. 17 Lacrosse Clinches Share of NJAC Regular Season Title

EWING, N.J. – The College of New Jersey lacrosse team raced out to a 14-1 lead on their way to an 18-4 win over Stockton University Tuesday night. The 17th-ranked Lions improved to 10-5 on the season and 5-0 in NJAC play. The Ospreys fell to 9-6 overall and 2-3 in league play. With the win TCNJ clinched a share of the NJAC regular season championship and the number one seed in next week's NJAC Tournament.

Alexandria Fitzpatrick got the scoring started for the Lions finding the back of the net in the game's first minute. The goal was the first of six unanswered for the Lions, as Fitzpatrick and Kasey Donoghue each scored twice during the run. Olivia Cleale was the feeder on three of the goals. Cleale finished with two goals and five assists, the final point was the 200th of her career.

Following a Stockton goal, TCNJ responded with five more before the first half horn sounded to take an 11-1 advantage into the half. Cleale scored the answering goal, then assisted on another pair for the sixth of her seven points in the game. Donoghue continued her scoring touch, finding the back of the net for the 32nd and 33rd time of the season before the opening half was out. The junior would finish with a season-high five goals.

"We saw early on what was working for us," said Donoghue. "and we kept going to what the defense allowed us to do. I was on the same page as our feeders and it showed in the results."

TCNJ scored three straight to open the second half. After Erin Jaffe scored her fifth of the season, the sides swapped goals for most of the remaining time.

With just over four minutes remaining, Kathleen Jaeger scored her second of the game before Fitzpatrick closed out the scoring with her fifth of the game and 53rd of the season.

TCNJ held a 14-7 edge in draw controls thanks to a career-high tying nine from Fitzpatrick. 10 players had ground balls for the Lions to rack up a 16-7 advantage.

Miranda Chrone and Alexa Natalicchio combined for five saves in net.

The Lions remain at home Saturday when they host Kean University. Game time is currently set for 1 p.m. Prior to the game, the team will honor its four graduating seniors.
