No. 15 Lacrosse Advances to NCAA Regionals

EWING, N.J. – Kasey Donoghue scored a first-half hat trick including her 100th career point to help lead The College of New Jersey lacrosse team to an 11-7 victory over Colby College Sunday afternoon in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. With the win, the 15th-ranked Lions (14-5) advance to the regional semi-finals where they will face fourth-ranked Tufts University.

The Lions struck first in the game, on Erin Harvey's 27th of the season. Donoghue quickly followed with her 44th of the season, getting an assist from Alexandria Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick led all players with four assists in the game.

After a pair of goals for the 16th-ranked Mules (9-7) tied the score at 2-2, Allie Gorman bookended a four-goal rally that saw TCNJ take control of the game. Back-to-back goals by Fitzpatrick and Donoghue put the Lions ahead 8-3 at the half. The goal by Fitzpatrick was her 64th of the season. The junior has now scored in every game this season.

The Mules fought back in the second half, opening the scoring after the break as Grace Langmuir scored her second of the game. TCNJ would again find the answer, this time off the stick of Olivia Cleale, who received a pass on a free position by Erin Harvey. TCNJ would eventually extend the lead to 11-5 on free position goals by Kathleen Jaeger and Harvey.

Colby would score the game's final two goals, but TCNJ gained possession with just over a minute to play and ran out the remaining time to earn the victory.

Miranda Chrone made 10 saves to earn the win in net. Jaeger paced the Lions with four ground balls. Avery Sweeney recorded a career-high seven draw controls, helping the Lions to an 11-9 advantage on the circle.

The Lions ride was big in the game forcing Colby to just 12-19 on clearing attempts. Fitzpatrick led the way with a game-high three caused turnovers.

Game times and locations for the Lions regional semi-final have yet to be announced by the NCAA.
