Men's Basketball Downs Kean

EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ men's basketball team cruised past Kean University on Monday by a final score of 89-68.

In the first half, the Lions (9-7, 6-3 NJAC) built a 23-11 lead in the first eight minutes of action. Danny Bodine drilled a three-pointer to put TCNJ up 17-8, and then Ryan Jensen hit a trifecta of his own. TCNJ grabbed the 12 point lead when Travis Jocelyn struck from beyond the arc.

The Cougars pulled to within 31-30 with five minutes to go in the first half. With under two minutes to play, Sterling White knocked down a three-pointer. On the next TCNJ possesion, Jocelyn threw down a dunk to put the Lions up 44-33. TCNJ took a 44-35 lead into halftime.

Kean pulled to within 45-40 with 17 minutes to play in the second half, yet the Lions then built a big lead with an 18-6 run. A pair of Randall Walko free throws got the run going, then Tommy Egan dialed up long distance to put TCNJ in front 50-40.

Strong defensive play from TCNJ led to the Lions' efficient offense. P.J. Ringel found Jocelyn on a fast break, and then Jocelyn hit one from three-point land. Baskets from Jensen and Bodine stretched the lead to 13, and free throws from Walko along with Jocelyn pushed it to 63-46. The Lions were able to control the rest of the game to grab the win.

Jensen put up a double-double, as he scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. He also dished out five assists, grabbed four steals, and blocked two shots. Jensen surpassed the 500 rebound mark for his career today as well.

Jocelyn also put up 23 points, and shot 5-of-7 from three-point range. He also grabbed seven boards. Walko tallied 12 points, while Bodine scored nine coming off of the bench. Ringel spread the ball around well, as he tallied a career-high 10 assists.

The Lions will resume play at Stockton on Jan. 22.
