Men's Basketball Downs Rutgers-Camden

EWING, N.J. – The College of New Jersey men's basketball team topped Rutgers-Camden on Saturday by a final score of 83-65. The Lions improved to 6-6 including 3-2 in the conference, while the Scarlet Raptors dipped to 4-6 and 1-4 in the NJAC.

The Lions began the game with a 26-10 stretch. Ryan Jensen hit a pair of free throws, then hit a lay-up to put TCNJ ahead 12-2. A couple of possessions later, Randall Walko knocked down a three-pointer. Jensen hit from in close again to put the Lions up 17-6. With over 11 minutes to play in the half, Sterling White found Danny Bodine on the fast break. Bodine threw down a ferocious dunk to make it a 23-8 TCNJ lead.

The Scarlet Raptors were able to bring TCNJ's lead back down to six. Right as the first half ended, P.J. Ringel hit an off-balanced buzzer beater. The Lions took a 48-40 lead into halftime.

The Lions continued to play good basketball in the second half, and built a 16 point lead with 16 minutes to play. Jensen continued to attack the basket, as he recorded a pair of buckets to put the Lions ahead, 66-40. Rutgers-Camden hung around and did not let the Lions cruise away easily, but TCNJ kept the lead at double-digits. Mike Walley's three-pointer gave TCNJ a 69-53 advantage with under 10 minutes to play, and the Lions controlled the rest of the game to grab their second win in three days.

Walko had a big game, as he scored a season-high 32 points. He was locked in shooting, and the senior guard shot 9-of-14 (64.2 %) from the field, 7-of-11 (63.6 %) from three-point range, and 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Jensen tallied 21 points, and shot 7-of-11 (63.6%) from the field, as well as a clean 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Travis Jocelyn scored 12 points on 5-of-9 (55.5%) shooting. Ringel tallied a career-high 11 rebounds and dished out six assists.

As a team, the Lions shot an even 27-54 (50%) from the field, as well as 11-of-28 (39.3%) from three-point land.

TCNJ returns to action Wednesday to face New Jersey City University on the road. Tip is set for 8:00 p.m.
