2/1/2020 5:39:00 PM

EWING, N.J. – The College of New Jersey wrestling team honored its alumni prior to Saturday's match. The current group of Lions then carried on the program's rich tradition defeating Lycoming 35-4. The sixth-ranked Lions improved to 14-1 on the season with their 13th straight victory. With the loss, the Warriors drop to 11-5.

Dan Ortega started off the afternoon earning back points late in the final period to complete a technical fall victory and put the Lions up 5-0. Jake Giordano fought hard against Sam Hanley, picking up a major decision at 133 to push the lead to 9-0. Robert Dinger scored early and often at 141, scoring 18 points and nabbing a major decision.

Anthony Rua stepped up to 149 pounds and delivered with a brilliant performance, topping his opponent 6-3 and giving the Lions a 16-0 lead.

After Lycoming earned what would be its lone victory of the day at 157, Alfonso Pinto Jr. survived a low scoring bout at 165 with a 3-2 win.

Dan Kilroy fell behind 4-0 on a takedown and pair of back points, but the senior stayed composed and turned the bout around, defeating his opponent 15-6.

Reid Colella was the second Lion on the day to move up in weight jumping to 184 pounds. Like Rua, Colella was strong at 184, taking a 10-1 major decision that put TCNJ on top 27-12.

Quinn Haddad jumped out to a 10-0 lead at the end of the first period and ended the match midway through the second period with a technical fall.

At heavyweight, Thomas Marretta was down 5-4 in the final half minute of the match. Marretta dug deep taking down his opponent and turning him in the final seconds to secure the victory.

The Lions travel to Centenary University Friday night at 7 p.m. for a dual meet as the team will seek a 14th straight win.
