PATERSON, N.J. – The No. 7 TCNJ field hockey team opened NJAC play with a 4-1 victory at William Paterson on Saturday afternoon.
Jess Hatch scored twice to lead the Lions to the victory.
William Paterson started off strongly, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Abigail Viola from the left seam at 5:52 of the first period. It only took the Lions 90 seconds to tie the score.
Kayla Cichlar netted her 10
th goal off a TCNJ penalty corner to tie the score at 1-1 at 7:22 of the first from
Mia Lanzilotta. TCNJ owned an 11-3 advantage in penalty corners on the day.
With just 11 seconds left in the first, Hatch recorded her first of the game on a penalty stroke to put the Lions ahead, 2-1.
After a scoreless second, Hatch got another one at 6:23 of the third, scoring off a ricochet with an assist to
Rayhanah Ahmed. That gave Hatch her 12
th goal of the season.
Sophia Foschini capped the scoring with her second goal of the season, scoring from the left side on a pass from
Emmalee Olsen. That came with just more than 10 minutes in the fourth period.
TCNJ outshot William Paterson, 12-3, and held an 8-1 advantage in shots on goal.
TCNJ returns home to face No. 11 Rowan on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
