EWING, N.J. – The No. 13 TCNJ field hockey team honored its senior class prior to Saturday's NJAC matchup with Ramapo at the TCNJ Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex, and then the Lions went out and earned a big victory over the Roadrunners with their 2-0 win.
TCNJ dominated play, outshooting Ramapo 18-5. The Lions broke through and took a 1-0 lead 11:29 into the second quarter.
Sophie Popp, one of those TCNJ seniors, scored to give the Lions the advantage.
Jess Hatch and
Rayhanah Ahmed earned the assists.
The Lions continued the pressure in the third period. TCNJ outshot Ramapo, 9-2, in the frame and made it 2-0 on
Mia Lanzilotta's tally with just 1:03 to play.
Kayla Cichlar added an assist on the play.
In the fourth quarter, the Lions didn't add to their lead, but their defense shut down the Ramapo attack. The Roadrunners didn't record a single shot or penalty corner in the entire frame.
Ahmed led the Lions with six shots, and Lanzilotta had five.
TCNJ returns home for a non-conference game against Albright on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
