EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ field hockey team scored twice in the fourth quarter to break a 2-2 tie, and then it held off DeSales to win, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at the TCNJ Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
Kayla Cichlar scored both of the fourth-quarter goals for the Lions.
TCNJ led, 2-1, after the first quarter.
Sophia Foschini scored at 2:58 of the first period on an assist from
Camryn Ley to make it 1-0. After DeSales tied the score later in the quarter, the Lions retook the lead in the final minute.
Rayhanah Ahmed scored on a penalty corner with just 28 seconds to play in the period to give the Lions the lead.
Maddie Trocki scored again in the second period for DeSales, tying the game at 2-2. That would be the final tally for either team until the fourth.
TCNJ dominated on the stats board in the fourth. The Lions outshot DeSales, 6-2, and had four penalty corners to Desales' zero in the period. That paid off 4:34 into the fourth when Cichlar netted her first of the game to break the tie. She scored again less than two minutes later on a feed from
Sophie Popp to make it 4-2.
Trocki brought DeSales to within one with her third goal of the game at 11:31 of the fourth, but the Lions held off DeSales to earn the 4-3 victory.
Ley had two assists for the Lions, and
Jess Hatch added one.
Dani Britton made five saves in goal.
TCNJ hosts Cabrini on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
