EWING, N.J. – The No. 6 TCNJ field hockey team scored twice in the second half to come back against Catholic on Thursday afternoon at the TCNJ Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. With the victory, the Lions have now won seven consecutive season-opening games.
TCNJ fell behind, 1-0, when Katie Cusumano deflected a shot in after a penalty corner at 2:48 of the second period. The score stayed that way until after halftime.
Jess Hatch tied the score with a goal from the right side in the third quarter. Hatch was a top rookie performer during her freshman season in 2019, and her first goal of the season knotted the score just over five minutes into the third.
Carly Cole broke the tie early in the fourth period, scoring on a corner to put the Lions ahead, 2-1. TCNJ held off Catholic for the remainder of the fourth to earn the victory.
The Lions outshot the Cardinals, 10-4.
TCNJ returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Juniata at 1 p.m.
