SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 6 TCNJ field hockey team went into hostile territory at No. 11 Salisbury on Saturday evening and shut out the Sea Gulls, winning 1-0. The Lions completed dominated the shots category, outshooting the Gulls, 18-2, and owning an 11-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Kayla Cichlar scored the only goal of the game for either team, and it didn't come until more than halfway through the third period.
The goal came as TCNJ controlled play in Salisbury's end.
Sophie Popp had a shot go wide, but the Lions forced a penalty corner 25 seconds later.
Jess Hatch had her shot saved out of the penalty corner, but Cichlar was right there to deposit the lone goal of the game. The goal is her eighth of the season.
Salisbury had one final gasp with a penalty corner with 1:14 to play, but the ensuing shot was blocked by the TCNJ defense.
Mia Lanzilotta and
Camryn Ley each had four shots to lead the Lions. All of Lanzilotta's shots were on goal.
The Lions return to action on Tuesday at Eastern.
