Box Score GLASSBORO, N.J. – The TCNJ women's basketball team entered Wednesday's NJAC game at Rowan on a two-game winning streak, including Saturday's thrilling 77-72 overtime victory against William Paterson at Packer Hall. Coming into Rowan looking for a third-straight win was a tough ask of the Lions, though, as the Profs entered on a five-game winning streak by an average of 20.4 points per game.
Rowan showed that offensive strength by defeating TCNJ, 89-58.
The crucial stretch came in the third quarter. After trailing, 41-31, at halftime, the Lions came cut that deficit to six with a basket by
Izzy Leazier and a pair of
Sydney Blum free throws. From that point at 8:48 of the third quarter until
Mollie Brueggemeier's layup at 4:18, Rowan outscored the Lions, 20-0. That run gave Rowan a 61-35 lead and complete control of the contest.
TCNJ shot a game-high 46.7 percent in the fourth quarter, but Rowan matched that shooting percentage, and each team scored 17 points in the final 10 minutes.
The Lions trailed by 10 at the half after being outshot by Rowan, 50 percent to 26.7 percent. The Lions were only outscored by Rowan by three points in the second quarter despite shooting just 3-for-18 (16.7 percent) from the field in the period. All three of TCNJ's field goals in the quarter were three pointers, and the Lions also held the Profs to just 30.8 percent from the field.
TCNJ trailed by seven, 25-18, at the end of the first quarter after finishing the period on a 5-0 run.
Nina Branchizio made two free throws, and
Julia Setaro completed a three-point play with one second left in the quarter. Setaro and Branchizio tied for a team-high 11 points. Setaro and Blum each had five rebounds to pace the Lions.
TCNJ returns to action on the road at Montclair State on Saturday at 3 p.m.
