EWING, N.J. – For the 37th time in program history, the TCNJ field hockey team will play in the Division III Field Hockey Tournament, as revealed by the NCAA Selection Show Sunday evening.
The Lions earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and will host the Phoenix of Wilson College of the CSAC Conference in round one of the tournament on Wednesday, November 9, at 2 pm.
The Phoenix (12-3) clinched an automatic bid to the tournament after winning their third straight CSAC Championship on Saturday.
After an uncharacteristic cold start to the season, TCNJ finished the regular season on a seven game winning streak and winning eight of its final nine games to clinch the two seed in the NJAC Tournament.
Hosting the semifinals round of the tournament, the Lions clutched out a thrilling 4-3 overtime victory against third-seeded and No. 11 Kean to advance to the championship game against top-seeded Rowan. The Lions ultimately were edged out by the No. 3 Profs, 1-0, despite putting up a hard-fought defensive effort throughout the game.
TCNJ returns to the national stage for the first time since 2019, when the top-seeded Lions hosted Franklin & Marshall in the second round of the tournament.
