Strong Second Half Lifts No. 10 Lacrosse Past Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa. – The No. 10 TCNJ women's lacrosse team found its first test of the young 2022 season, and the Lions passed with flying colors on Tuesday night at Cabrini. After leading just 7-6 at halftime after giving up six second quarter goals, the Lions dominated the second half on their way to a 19-8 win over the Cavaliers.

The back-and-forth first half started favorably for the Lions, scoring the only four goals in the first quarter from four different scorers. Jennifer LaRocca, Ally Tobler, Anna Wright and Anna Devlin all netted goals to stake the Lions to the 4-0 lead.

Cabrini came out firing in the second, though, outscoring the Lions, 6-3, to pull to within a goal at the half. Natalie Berry scored to make it 5-2, and Devlin and LaRocca each scored later in the quarter to give the Lions one-goal leads. LaRocca's score with 3:37 left made it 7-6.

TCNJ jumped on Cabrini quickly in the third. Wright, Devlin and Tobler each scored in less than three minutes early in the period to turn the 7-6 lead into a 10-6 advantage. Wright capped the surge with another goal at 8:07 of the third to make it 11-6.

Tobler scored five goals while Wright and Devlin each had four goals and two assists.

Leading, 11-7, after three quarters, the Lions put the game to bed with a strong fourth quarter. Tobler scored three of her five goals in the period while Veronika O'Donnell had two. LaRocca started the period with a man-up tally to giver her three goals for the night. Tobler's three goals came in succession, with the first two just 1:11 apart. In all, the Lions outscored Cabrini, 8-1, in the quarter while outshooting the Cavaliers, 14-1.

TCNJ owned a 39-18 advantage in shots for the game. Devlin had four ground balls while Wayden Ay and Sabrina Phillips each had three.
