MADISON, N.J. – Matthew Michibata put an exclamation point on a historic weekend at the ITA Northeast Regional, extending his stay into Monday to claim the singles championship with an emphatic straight-set victory.
Michibata downed RPI's Okada Tsubasa 6-1, 7-5 at Drew to become the first TCNJ regional singles champion since assistant coach
Michael Klimchak '08 in 2007 and secure All-America status for the fall. The sixth-year standout had already won the doubles title alongside
Harrison Maitland-Carter on Sunday.
Michibata, who notched his 135
th career victory on Monday, will head to Rome, Georgia in 10 days to compete in both singles and doubles at the ITA Cup with a chance to secure fall All-America status in both events.
