BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The No. 19 TCNJ field hockey team extended its winning streak to a season-best four games after a 2-0 road victory at Moravian on Wednesday evening.
Two solo third quarter goals from
Mackenzie Hart and
Claire Engebreth led the way for the Lions (7-3) as the offense dominated the Greyhounds (3-7) with 15 shots and 10 penalty corners. Defensively, the blue and gold recorded their third shutout in the last four games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions offense controlled the first period, putting up six shots alongside five penalty corners to relentlessly pressure the Greyhounds' backline. However, stellar goalkeeping from Moravian's Maia Machado kept TCNJ off the board as she racked up four saves.
- Junior Rayhanah Ahmed nearly struck first for TCNJ 5:38 into the second frame. After receiving a nice feed from Bella DiNardo on the right side of the shooting circle, Ahmed navigated her way around the defense before launching a shot from the center which bounced off the right post.
- TCNJ finally broke through the Moravian defense 21 seconds into the third when Hart found the back left corner of the cage in transition for her first career goal. The sophomore's shot split a Greyhounds defender and goalie Machado.
- With four minutes left in the quarter, Engebreth flashed her dribbling by attacking downhill against a trio of Moravian defenders before eventually putting up a shot which bounced safely past two more Greyhounds for the insurance score.
STANDOUT LIONS
- Ahmed finished the game with a game high seven shots (four on goal)
- Sophomore Brigitte Racey shut down the lone shot on goal she faced to record her third career shutout
- Junior Bella DiNardo and Hart each recorded three shots
