ALBANY, N.Y. – The No. 14 TCNJ wrestling team finished with a 2-1 dual meet record following a stellar day at the Arm Bar at the Armory on Saturday.
The Lions kick started their day with a shutout victory over York, dominating in all ten bouts as Matt Griffin and
Peter Wersinger each recorded a victory by fall.
In the nationally ranked dual with No. 5 Wisconsin-La Crosse, TCNJ hung tough with a trio of decision victories, before the Eagles pulled away.
Rounding out the day, the blue and gold clinched a dominant win over Cornell, as
Alex Strashinsky recorded a huge pin and
Reid Colella pulled off a sudden victory win.
No. 14 TCNJ 49, YORK 0
- 125 – Freshman Matt Griffin kicked off his day with the huge pin of the Spartan's Jake Kresicki 1:12 into the second round.
- 133 – Junior Kyle Nase earned the dominant 19-4 tech fall win over Colman Ermi 30 seconds into the third round.
- 141 – Senior Larry Melchionda followed up with his own tech fall, defeating York's Bryan Diaz 17-2 at the 1:45 mark of the second round
- 149 – Junior Mike Conklin earned the decision over Nick Paolucci, winning 7-1.
- 157 – Freshman Ryan Datz took home the 19-4 tech fall over York's Clinton Patzke 1:01 into round two.
- 165 – Junior Nick Sacco got the major decision against Alan Devries, coming out on top 14-0.
- 174 – Fifth year senior Reid Colella earned the forfeit win over York's Justice Hockenberry.
- 184 – Junior James Romaine recorded the tech fall over Luca Romasco, dominating 20-3 to seal the match 1:24 into second round.
- 197 – Junior Austin Raynor got the 18-4 major decision victory over Brock Hofler.
- 285 – Fifth year senior Peter Wersinger secured the shut out with the emphatic pin of Derek Martin just 1:43 into the bout.
NO. 5 WISCONSIN-LA CROSSE 25, No. 14 TCNJ 9
- 125 – Griffin continued his day with the 13-8 decision over the Eagles' Remington Bontreger.
- 133 – Nase followed up with a decision victory of his own, taking down Quintin Wolbert 11-6.
- 141 – Wisconsin-La Crosse's Sam Lorenz secured the close 6-3 decision over Melchionda
- 149 – The Eagles' Tyler Goebel followed up with an even closer 4-1 decision over Conklin
- 157 – Wisconsin-La Crosse's Nolan Hertel recorded the tech fall over Datz for the 18-3 win 2:24 into second round.
- 165 – Sacco continued his stellar day with a 5-1 decision over Cole Hansen
- 174 – Wisconsin-La Crosse pulled away when Leo Draveling recorded the 12-1 major decision over Colella.
- 184 – The Eagles continued their scoring with a 12-5 Marcus Orlandoni decision over Romaine.
- 197 – Ben Kawczynski sealed the matchup in his bout with Raynor, recording the major decision with a 10-0 win.
- 285 – Wisconsin-La Crosse' Mike Douglas earned the 2-1 decision over Wersinger.
No. 14 TCNJ 30, CORNELL 10
- 125 – Matt Griffin rounded out his perfect day with the 21-2 tech fall victory over Cornell's Jase Van Pelt with seven seconds to spare in the second round.
- 133 – The Rams' Eli Sneed narrowly defeated Nase with a close 5-2 decision.
- 141 – Sophomore Sam Kotch made his first appearance for the Lions with an 11-3 major decision victory over AJ Parrish.
- 149 – Freshman Mayson Harms took advantage of his first appearance on the day with an 11-5 decision over Landon Card for the win.
- 157 – Senior Alex Strashinsky secured the huge pin of Cornell's Gabriel Smith just 1:50 into the bout.
- 165 – Sacco finished perfect on the day with a dominant 16-1 tech fall win over Scotty Scheidecker just 44 seconds into round two.
- 174 – Colella won a sudden victory decision for the blue and gold over the Rams' Brian Petry, securing the takedown in overtime to win 4-1.
- 184 – Cornell's Cael Mclaren took the decision over Lions freshman DJ Henry, 8-1.
- 197 – The Rams followed up with a 16-4 major decision win from Treyten Steffen over TCNJ sophomore Chris Stavrou.
- 285 – Wersinger wrapped up his day with a major decision victory over Jackson Brinker, taking home the win 16-5.

The Lions return to the mat in two weekends at the New Standard Invitational hosted by York College. Competition will began on Friday, December 1 at 3 PM, before concluding on Saturday, December 2 starting at 9 AM.
