EWING, N.J. – Led by a stellar day from senior superstar
James McChesney, the TCNJ men's swimming and diving team continued its dominance in the pool and on the board on day two of the TCNJ Invitational.
The Lions began with a fast morning prelims session in which McChesney broke his own school record in the 100 fly with his time of 48.16. In the evening session, McChesney secured the fastest 200 free time in Division III with an excellent leadoff split in the 800 free relay, while a pair of individual and relay B-Cut marks were also hit to help TCNJ build on its first place lead by increasing the team score to 939 points.
TOP-THREE FINISHERS
- Beginning the finals session for TCNJ, the 200 medley relay team of Andrew Kidchob, Ryan VanDeVeen, McChesney and Dixon Kahler outpaced the field with a stellar B-Cut time of 1:29.49.
- The Lions swept the 400 IM championship finals by securing each of the top-three spots. Sophomore Gavin Formon led the way by taking gold with a B-Cut mark and NJAC-best time of 3:56.99, which narrowly edged past junior Ryan Higgins, who clocked his second B-Cut time of the day in the event at 3:57.21. Higgins dominated the morning prelims with a B-Cut mark of 3:57.89. Rounding out the sweep was freshman Jonah Stein, who touched in third with a time of 4:08.71.
- Kidchob hit an NJAC-best time of 50.37 to win the 100 fly for the Lions, and fellow sophomore Richard Park placed third with an excellent time of 50.70 in the finals.
- The 200 free finals saw sophomore Nate Ross lead TCNJ with a second-place finish after clocking a time of 1:43.83.
- In the 100 breast finals, VanDeVeen narrowly missed out on a B-Cut time of his own, as the junior touched in an NJAC-best 55.70 for the win. Finishing right behind him, fellow junior Shawn Kushner took second with his time of 56.24.
- Kidchob won his second event of the evening in the 100 back finals, this time touching in 50.36 to beat out the field. Freshman Mason Bushay took third by clocking a time of 51.40.
- The final event of the evening saw the 800 free relay quartet McChesney, Brian Bull, Keilan Moran, Lukas Blach secure the final B-Cut time with a combined time of 6:41.44. McChesney's leadoff 200 free split of 1:37.84 overtook the Division III for fastest time in the event this season.
ON THE BOARD
- In the 3-meter 11 dives, junior Ethan Weiss took his first win on the weekend with the top final score of 450.75.
UP NEXT
The Lions will conclude the 2023 TCNJ Invitational tomorrow with prelims beginning at 9 AM and the finals at 2 PM. Diving will resume at 11 AM.
