Devlin Breaks Program Draw Control Record on Senior Day

EWING, N.J. – TCNJ women's lacrosse defeated the Kean Cougars, 14-2, on Saturday, a game that honored 13 seniors in record breaking fashion. Senior Anna Devlin broke the record for program draw controls in the victory against Kean. She broke the previous record of 297, set by Elizabeth Morrison.

The Lions got the action started early on with their first goal just two minutes into the game, with Katherine Naiburg notching an unassisted goal to start the action. Kean scored one goal, but a Lion scoring spree prevented them from getting another in the period. Anna Wright and Morgan Vaccaro both scored two goals in the first period, with Larissa Hatzold also getting on the board, all unassisted and resulting in an end-of-quarter score of 6-1.

The second period saw Kean striking first, with Kylie Giordano scoring less than one minute into the quarter. The Lions quickly put a stop to that, led by Devlin with three goals, her record-breaking draw control, and an assist on Naiburg's flashy second goal of the day. Goalkeeper Julia Charest helped her team out on the defensive end to prevent Kean from scoring on two free position attempts at the end of the period before Vaccaro scored on the buzzer, making the half-time score 11-2.

TCNJ led off the scoring in the third, with Wright getting her hat-trick goal off of a free position attempt four minutes into the period. Naiburg completed her hat-trick in the third, off of an assist by Hatzold and Vaccaro scored her fourth goal off an assist from Jillian Westerby. The Lions shutout quarter featured a brief weather interruption with just 1:50 left.

Just before the start of the fourth, another weather interruption caused an early end to the game, resulting in a final score of 14-2 after three quarters. The Lions outshot Kean, 38-7, in the win, collected 10 draw controls, and had 25 ground balls.

After the game, the 13 Lion seniors were honored for their commitment and dedication to the program. The 2023 seniors honored are Larissa Hatzold, Wayden Ay, Kat Naiburg, Bobbi O'Neill, Jillian Westerby, Sophia Pappalardo, Anna Wright, Anna Devlin, Sabrina Phillips, Nikki Phillips, Veronika O'Donnell, Kileigh Pfluger, and Kaitlyn Birnbohm-Kaminski.

TCNJ returns to action at Stockton on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
