Track Wraps up Busy Weekend at Penn & Lions Invite

The TCNJ track and field team kept themselves busy once again this weekend, competing at the Penn Relays (Philadelphia, Pa.) and hosting the Lions Outdoor Invitational (Ewing, N.J.). Amongst a field of athletes across all divisions, the Lions put up times and marks that are certainly worth highlighting.
 
Penn Relays:
 
The Women's 4x200- meter relay team of Valandra Riggins, Eliza Bruncaj, Ashlyn MacLure and Maria Grill ran terrifically on Friday, finishing tenth in the event with a time of 1:40.93. They were the fastest DIII team in the meet and the time is the second fastest in school history. Including being the fastest DIII team at the meet, they also finished ahead of DI programs including Maryland, Pitt and Wisconsin.
 
The Men's 4x100-meter relay team including Tom Domozych, Jason Engler, Justin Gomez and Ray Schmitt had a 12th-place finish with a time of 42.63 seconds. Their mark put them ahead of Division I programs including UMBC, Michigan State and Stony Brook.
 
Lions Outdoor Invitational:
 
Roman Rychkov highlighted the men's team at the Lions Outdoor Invitational with his first place finish in the 400-meter run. Even with the rain Rychkov was still able to record a sub-50 second mark with a time of 49.99.
 
On Friday, Jessica Reilly broke the school record in the hammer throw with a personal best mark of 47.9 meters. This breaks the previous record set in 2015 of 47.26 meters. The mark took second place in the event.
 
Sameerah Khan claimed first in the 800-meter run on Saturday with a fantastic last stretch where she caught the first-place runner to finish ahead by one-hundreth of a second at 2:22.29.
 
In the men's 800-meter run, Sean Burtnett ran to the tune of a 1:55.70 time and a second-place finish for the event.
 
Riggins, Bruncaj and MacLure kept up the strong running as Riggins took first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.32 seconds while Bruncaj and MacLure took third and fourth in the 200-meter run with times of 25.37 and 25.46 seconds respectively.
 
Domozych, Gomez and Schmitt also kept up their pace from the Penn Relays as they finished second, third and fourth in the 100-meter dash with times of 11.01, 11.13 and 11.16 seconds consecutively. Domozych did one better with a third-place finish in the 200-meter run, crossing the finish line at 22.23 seconds.
 
Allison Uhl and Kelly O'Grady took third and fourth respectively in the women's 400-meter run with times of 58.85 and 59.94 seconds.
Jason Engler was blazing in the 110-meter hurdles as he picked up a second-place finish with a time of 15.46 seconds.
 
In the women's triple jump, Zoe Iovino leapt her way to third place with a mark of 10.65 meters.
 
TCNJ track & field gears up for the NJAC Championships next weekend at Ramapo College starting on Saturday, May 6th.
