PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The TCNJ women's track and field team finished up at the NJAC Indoor Championships on Friday, taking second place as a squad.
As it had been in past years, it was a tight contest between the Lions and Rowan throughout the two-day meet. However, the Profs were able to pull away in the last few events to claim the conference crown. Rowan finished with 201 points while TCNJ had 182.5.
Lucia Garcia-Beltran marked her first indoor season as a Lion in style, picking up three gold medals in the three events in which she competed.
Kelsey Thomas also earned three (two gold and one bronze), and
Rukky Daranijo rounded out TCNJ's multi-medal runners with her one gold and one silver.
In the field,
Sarah Scepkowski,
Allison Lavin, and
Lia Malave all added multiple medals to their collections. Scepkowski earned three silvers, Lavin won a gold and a silver, and
Lia Malave collected three bronzes across the two days.
MEDAL WINNERS
- Garcia-Beltran took gold in the 60m, posting a time of 7.59. Garcia-Beltran picked up another gold medal in the 200m, where she posted a 24.65. TCNJ took up two podium in the event, with Kelsey Thomas placing third (25.15).
- Thomas and Daranijo took up the top two spots on the 400m podium. Thomas won by posting a personal-best time of 57.73, while Daranijo took silver with a time of 58.38.
- Scepkowski finished runner-up in the 60m hurdles (9.16), and she also took the silver medal in the high jump (1.58m).
- Kelly O'Grady picked up another silver medal for the Lions in the 800m (2:16.08).
- Lavin set a new PR in the weight throw — 15.47m — to claim the silver medal in the event.
- Malave took bronze in the triple jump with her season-best mark of 11.07m.
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES
- Daranijo finished in fourth (25.57) in the 200m
- Erin McGauley took fifth place in the triple jump, leaping a personal-best 10.79m
- Alex Grivas paced the Lions in the mile, finishing sixth in 5:18.75.
