Pfluger Reaches Historic Milestone as No. 11 Field Hockey Dominates Juniata

EWING, N.J. – The No. 11 TCNJ Field Hockey team captured head coach Sharon Pfluger's 650th career victory in blowout fashion, dominating Juniata en route to a 7-1 victory Sunday afternoon.

Pfluger becomes the first coach in Division III history to amass 650 total wins, and remains the third winningest coach across all levels of the NCAA. As a team, the Lions (2-1) totaled 28 shots and 10 penalty corners to overwhelm the Eagles (2-2) from the opening minutes of the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • TCNJ struck first quickly, with freshman Isabel Maher finding the back of the cage off a Claire Engebreth assist less than two minutes into the game. The goal marks Maher's first in her collegiate career.
  • Eight minutes later in the first period, junior Carly Cole scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Rayhanah Ahmed.
  • With 16 seconds left in the first half, Bella DiNardo joined in on the action on a pinpoint shot off the rebound after an initial shot attempt was blocked by an Eagles defender.
  • Cole opened up the second half with her second goal of the game just 1:45 into the frame, as she was once again assisted by Ahmed.
  • The Eagles responded later on in the quarter when Brooke Franke notched a solo goal to cut the Lions' lead down to 4-1.
  • The fourth was all TCNJ as the Lions piled on three goals. Freshman Kara Wilson recorded the first of her Lions career less than a minute into the period. She was followed up by Maher's second score of the match, before Ahmed secured her second in as many days to wrap up the scoring.
STANDOUT LIONS
  • Ahmed led the unstoppable Lions offense, scoring a goal herself while assisting on three more to cap off a dominant performance. Her assists total ties a career-high set last season.
  • Cole had the fifth multi-goal performance of her career, and saw five of her eight total shots be on goal.
  • Maher's multi-goal performance marks the first by a TCNJ freshman since two-time All-American Jess Hatch accomplished the feat back in 2019.
  • In addition to her assist, Claire Engebreth finished her day with five shots, three of which being on goal.
