Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Andy Edwards

Dvorsky, Defense Drive Field Hockey Past Arcadia

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The TCNJ field hockey team scored an early goal and weathered the elements to leave Arcadia with a hard-fought 1-0 victory on a rainy Saturday afternoon in the Philadelphia suburbs.

THE RECORDS
  • TCNJ improved to 4-3 overall, while Arcadia dropped to 3-5
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lions drew first blood when, in the scramble for a rebound, the Arcadia goalie covered up the ball and conceded a penalty stroke. For the second time in as many games, Emily Dvorsky stepped up and converted from the spot, burying the penalty into the left side of the cage
  • TCNJ continued to maintain pressure in the Arcadia defensive zone in the second quarter, piling up four corners and four shots. Rayhanah Ahmed nearly doubled the advantage with two minutes left, but her close-range shot bounded just wide of the left post and the blue and gold settled for a 1-0 lead at half
  • The wind and rain picked up steadily in the second half, at the price of the teams' attacks. Each side managed just one off-target shot in the third quarter until the dying stages of the frame, when the Lions earned a corner with 3.3 seconds left. Bella DiNardo lined up a shot, but a Knight defender was there to stop it and clear the danger
  • The Lions dominated possession in the final 15 minutes, holding Arcadia without a shot or corner while racking up seven of each of their own. None was fruitful, but Dvorsky's early goal was enough to leave with a victory
NOTES
  • Brigitte Racey made the only save she needed to in order to preserve the shutout, the first of her career
  • Ahmed led all players with six shots, half of them on target
  • DiNardo registered four shots and Claire Engebreth had three
  • TCNJ enjoyed sizeable advantages in shots (16-4) and corners (15-5). The Lions outshot Arcadia, 13-2, after the first quarter
  • Saturday's contest marked the first meeting between the programs
UP NEXT
  • The Lions return home to take on Albright on Wednesday
