EWING, N.J. – The No. 24 TCNJ field hockey team scored twice in the fourth quarter to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 victory over No. 12 Rowan on Saturday at the TCNJ Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.
Giavanna Downs tied the score early in the fourth, and
Rayhanah Ahmed deposited the game-winning goal with just 2:41 to play in regulation. With the victory in the NJAC opener for both teams, the Lions broke a three-game losing streak to the Profs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rowan opened the scoring with a goal from Julia Cavicchio off a penalty corner with 4:11 left in the first period.
- The Lions responded with a Carly Cole tally when she deflected an Ahmed shot with just 17 seconds to play in the first.
- After a scoreless second period, Rowan took the lead in the third when Cavicchio sent a long pass in to Sidney Pavlishin. She deflected it into the net for a 2-1 Rowan lead.
- Down 2-1, the Lions had five shots in the fourth quarter, matching their total from the first three quarters combined. Downs scored the tying goal 3:14 into the fourth off a rebound.
- Ahmed gave the Lions the lead nine minutes later thanks to a pass from Claire Engebreth off of a corner.
OF NOTE
- Emily Dvorsky recorded a defensive save in the second quarter with just 18 seconds left, preserving the 1-1 tie into the halftime intermission.
- TCNJ goalie Brigitte Racey made four saves for her second highest output of the season.
- The Lions have now won three straight games for the second time this season.
