Field Hockey Blanks Kean in NJAC Opener

UNION, N.J. – The TCNJ field hockey team opened NJAC play with a convincing result, rolling to a 3-0 shutout at Kean on Tuesday night under the lights and extending its winning streak to four.

The victory was the 666th in the career of head coach Sharon Pfluger, tying the all-time Division III record held by Lynchburg's Enza Steele.

The Lions (7-4, 1-0) wasted no time getting on the front foot, scoring on their first shot as Rayhanah Ahmed's effort slid under the Kean goalie for a quick 1-0 lead just 93 seconds into the contest.

Mackenzie Hart doubled the advantage seven minutes later, tapping in Jadyn Huff's hard backhand pass at the right post.

TCNJ put Kean (4-8, 0-1) under relentless pressure in the second quarter, racking up nine shots and forcing a defensive save as well as a save on an Ahmed penalty stroke. The third goal came with 3:32 left before halftime off a corner, when Isabel Maher posted up a defender near the cage, took a pass from Ahmed, and turned and fired home.

Kean's first corner and shot came about three minutes into the fourth, but Claire Engebreth managed to block the hosts' lone attempt.
