No. 10 Lacrosse Opens Season With Most Goals in a Game in 30 Years

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The No. 10 TCNJ women's lacrosse team opened the 2024 season in style, scoring a 25-9 victory over Moravian on Saturday afternoon. The offensive output was historic as the Lions posted their highest goal total in a game since 1994.

The Lions actually fell behind by two goals in the first 3:24 of action before the offensive machine kicked into gear. The Lions responded to the fast Moravian start with six goals in an eight-minute span, highlighted by two goals each from Marissa Lucca and Ally Tobler. Tobler added an assist on a Katherine Naiburg tally that made it 3-2 Lions with 9:11 left in the first.

Lucca and Tobler each finished with eight points to pace the TCNJ offense. Lucca scored seven goals to lead the team, and Tobler finished with six goals and two helpers.

Moravian got as close as 12-7 with 3:44 to play in the second quarter, but that was the last Greyhound goal until the final minute of regulation. Sydney Sieja scored in the final minute of the first half to push the Lions' lead to 16-7 heading into the half, and that was just the fourth goal in a 13-0 run for the Lions that last for more than half of the game.

CJ Kole and Gabriella Roosa each scored three times. Tobler and Kira Sides each had five draw controls, and Madison Wernik caused four turnovers.

The 25 goals are the most in a game since the 1994 national championship game when then-Trenton State defeated William Smith, 29-11, to cap a perfect 15-0 season. TCNJ scored 24 goals in a game most recently in 2022 in a 24-5 victory over Claremont Mudd-Scripps.

TCNJ returns to action next Saturday at Lebanon Valley.
