PITMAN, N.J. – A pair of TCNJ student athletes were selected as NJAC Athletes of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday morning.
Senior
Kira Sides was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week for women's lacrosse, while Freshman
Maya Knasiak was picked as the softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week.
SOFTBALL
Knasiak was terrific in her pitching debut, allowing just one hit and striking out eight batters in a 13-0 shutout of Gwynedd Mercy on Sunday. The rookie allowed only one ball to leave the infield and took a no-hitter into the fifth before the Griffins broke up the no-no bid with a soft infield flare. Knasiak also made a big impact with the bat, going 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Sides was all over the field in the Lions' wins over Scranton and Farmingdale State last week. The do-everything midfielder tallied five goals and three assists on the offensive end and was a force defensively, tallying eight caused turnovers and seven ground balls for the week. Sides netted three goals and an assist to go with four draw controls, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers in Wednesday's 11-8 win at Scranton, then produced four points (2G/2A) and five caused turnovers as the Lions cruised past Farmingdale State, 18-2, on Saturday.
