No. 10 Lacrosse Flies Past Farmingdale State

EWING, N.J. – Ally Tobler scored five goals in the first 20 minutes of game time and the No. 10 TCNJ lacrosse team put together a sterling defensive performance in an 18-2 victory against Farningdale State in Saturday's home opener.

  • TCNJ rolled to 4-0, while Farmingdale State dropped to 1-4
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Natalie Berry opened the scoring just 38 seconds after opening draw, and it didn't take long for the floodgates to open as Tobler went on a personal 3-0 run to quickly stretch the lead to 4-0
  • Marissa Lucca scored on a feed from Tobler and Madison Wernik got on the board in transition to make it 6-0 before Farmingdale State broke up the shutout at 3:37 of the first quarter
  • Tobler kick-started a 7-0 second-quarter spurt with an early tally, which continued with back-to-back player-down goals from Tobler and Berry. After Tobler controlled the ensuing draw, Berry fed Lucca for a quick shot and a 10-1 lead
  • The Lions started the running clock with a double-digit advantage on Morgan Vaccaro's free-position marker with 3:44 to go in the second quarter
  • Veronica Campbell scored her first career goal on a rebound and quick put-back with 1:22 to go, and Katherine Naiburg finished a pass from CJ Kole in the closing seconds to send the Lions into the break up 13-1
  • TCNJ netted three eight-meter goals in the third quarter – two from Kole and another by Vaccaro
  • Kira Sides extended the Lions' run to 11-0 with an unassisted tally early in the fourth, then answered a Rams goal with a free-position strike of her own to cap the scoring with 1:36 on the clock
STANDOUT LIONS
  • Tobler finished with five goals and an assist in addition to a career-high 10 draw controls
  • Sides produced two goals and two assists – her fourth straight game with exactly four points – while racking up five caused turnovers and three ground balls
  • Berry and Kole each had two goals and an assist, while Lucca and Vaccaro scored two goals apiece
  • Naiburg paired a goal with an assist
  • Kaitlyn Birnbohm-Kaminski had three ground balls and two caused turnovers, and Meghan Hogan caused a pair of FSC turnovers
  • Wernik matched Sides and Birnbohm-Kaminski for the team lead with three ground balls
  • Charest made two saves in the first half and Wexler had four in the second – including one on a breakaway and another on a free-position attempt
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • TCNJ outshot the Rams, 39-11, with a 30-8 edge in shots on goal
  • The Lions easily controlled the draw circle, 15-6, and forced 21 turnovers
  • TCNJ was a robust 7-for-12 on free-position shots, while FSC missed both of its chances
NOTES
  • Tobler now sits one point away from 200 for her career and moved to 14th all-time in goals (173)
  • Charest moved into a tie with Kelly Schlupp for seventh on the all-time list with her 36th career win
