No. 11 Lacrosse Hammers Ramapo in NJAC Opener

EWING, N.J. – The No. 11 TCNJ women's lacrosse team kicked off NJAC play in style on Saturday, cruising to a 20-1 victory over visiting Ramapo on a windy afternoon in Ewing.
 
FOR THE RECORD
  • TCNJ improved to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in the NJAC, while Ramapo dropped to 3-6 and 0-1 in league play
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ally Tobler scored just over a minute into the game, and the hosts were off and running
  • Katherine Naiburg fed Marissa Lucca for a goal before scoring one of her own to make it 3-0 before the Roadrunners netted their lone goal at the 10:30 mark of the first
  • TCNJ went right back to work, scoring five more times before the end of the period, including a pair from CJ Kole
  • Kole scored on an assist from Berry just 16 seconds into the second quarter, and it took only four minutes and change more for Berry to deposit a pass from Madison Wernik and make it a running clock with an 11-1 lead at the 11:03 mark of the second stanza
  • Kira Sides found the back of the cage just shy of the midway point of the frame and Veronica Campbell netted an unassisted tally to make it 13-1 at the break
  • Sides, Marissa Lucca, and Tobler all notched goals in the third before Gabriella Roosa beat the buzzer with a goal of her own, giving the Lions a 17-1 advantage
  • Sides, Wernik, and Morgan Vaccaro all scored in the fourth quarter
FOR THE FOES
  • Erin Smeilus scored the lone goal for Ramapo
  • Kelly Griffin had three draw controls
  • Alyssa Curto made five saves
STANDOUT LIONS
  • Sides paced the pride with five points (3G/2A) plus three ground balls and two caused turnovers
  • Tobler scored four goals and was matched in points by Berry (2G/2A) and Naiburg (1G/3A)
  • Kole registered her second straight hat-trick with three goals, while Lucca and Wernik each paired two goals with an assist
  • Vaccaro and Campbell each had a goal and a helper
  • Wernik, Vaccaro, and Kaitlyn Birnbohm-Kaminski each caused two turnovers
  • Tobler (9) and Wernik (6) combined for 15 draw controls
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • TCNJ outshot the Roadrunners, 34-3
  • The Lions dominated the draw circle, 17-7, and forced Ramapo into a 5-for-18 conversion rate on clears
  • TCNJ was 3-for-5 on free-position attempts and did not concede a chance to the visitors
NOTES
  • TCNJ has never lost to Ramapo
  • Tobler moved into a tie for 7th in TCNJ history with 197 career goals
  • Naiburg is now eight points shy of 100 for her career
