PITMAN, N.J. – Six TCNJ student-athletes were recognized for their outstanding performances with weekly awards from the NJAC on Monday. Football's
Chimmy Ozokpor and
Jake Ware, field hockey's
Jadyn Huff and
Isabel Maher, men's soccer's
Sean Najdzinowicz and women's cross country's
Krista Purnell represent the Lions' season-best tally.
Ozokpor is now a two-time NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Week after recovering a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown as part of the Lions' 42-0 shutout of William Paterson on Saturday. The freshman's TD was one of two defensive scores on the day, with Ozokpor also registering his first career sack in the win.
A first-time Special Teams Player of the Week honoree, Ware averaged 51.3 yards on three punts during Saturday's shutout. One of his punts was a 61-yarder that pinned the Pioneers back inside their own 5-yard line.
Huff scored three goals and added an assist in a pair of NJAC routs for the Lions en route to her fourth career Offensive Player of the Week selection. She had two goals in a 7-0 victory over Kean on Wednesday, then came back with a goal and an assist in Saturday's 6-0 win at William Paterson. She currently ranks second in the NJAC in goals (9) and points (23), leading the Lions in both categories.
Maher, meanwhile, netted two goals in Saturday's victory at William Paterson, helping the Lions pitch a pair of shutouts on the other end to secure her first NJAC Defensive Player of the Week selection.
Nadjzinowicz is a first-time NJAC Rookie of the Week honoree after the freshman tied his season-best mark with seven saves in TCNJ's 1-0 win over Ramapo. The shutout was the second of Najdzinowicz' young career and first since the Lions' season opener.
Purnell rounds out TCNJ's honorees with her own Rookie of the Week selection. The freshman paced the Lions at last weekend's Highlander Invitational, finishing the 5K in 14th with a time of 19:30.1 – the fastest time amongst all NJAC rookies competing.
