EWING, N.J. - The 22nd-ranked TCNJ field hockey team celebrated its Senior Day in shutout fashion Saturday afternoon, blanking Ramapo, 7-0 in the Lions' final conference game of the regular season.
Â
TCNJ (11-4, 5-1 NJAC) wasted no time opening the scoring in Saturday's contest, with just 100 seconds having ticked off the clock before the Lions took the lead on their second corner of the afternoon.
Â
Julia Neff inserted the ball and found
Prisha Dhruve at the top of the circle. The sophomore combined with
Rachael Tetzlaff to find
Jadyn Huff, who took a touch and fired a shot that took a deflection on its way into the cage to give TCNJ an early, 1-0 advantage.
Â
Despite firing off nine more shots before the opening quarter's end, it was the Roadrunners' (3-11, 0-5 NJAC) Sam Fried standing on her head between the posts to keep it a once score game entering the first break.
Â
The Lions would take control of the game in the second period, with Huff earning herself a brace on a feed from
Mackenzie Hart before the senior found the back of the cage herself three minutes later to balloon TCNJ's lead to 3-0 in the opening seven minutes of the frame. Following in Hart's footsteps shortly thereafter was
Emma Jordan, who scored her second collegiate goal at the 25:08 mark when the senior found herself with a loose ball at the near post and slotted it past Fried and in, giving the Lions a 4-0 lead they would carry into halftime.
Â
With the game already out of reach, TCNJÂ added goals from
Kara Wilson and
Ali Simmons in the third before scoring its seventh and final goal off the stick of
Kendal Justus with nine minutes to go. The Lions would then keep possession for the remainder of the contest, with the final buzzer clinching the 7-0 win.
