SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – At the second day of the ITA Northeast Regional, TCNJ's
Alberto Thomas booked his spot in the final four.
Thomas's first match, a round-of-16 matchup, was cut short as his opponent was forced to retire due to injury. As a result, Thomas moved on via a scoreline of 4-1. His next match in the quarterfinals went to a third-set super tiebreaker, with Thomas prevailing over Vassar's Fernando Bauermeister, 6-1, 3-6, 10-2.
Harrison Maitland-Carter and
Nathan Chan, the two other Lions involved in the second day of regionals, both fell in their round-of-16 matches.
Harrison Maitland-Carter battled in a match which required a third set as well as tiebreakers in the first two sets. Despite a valiant effort, Maitland-Carter was defeated by Fletcher King of Skidmore College, 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (7-5), 4-10. Finally,
Nathan Chan fell to RPI's Quoc-Uy Vo, 3-6, 1-6.
This year's entry into the semifinals marks Thomas's best ever singles performance in the competition. Thomas will continue his quest for the regional singles crown tomorrow in the third day of the ITA Northeast Regional.
